Can this young and fresh cast revive the magic of Namaste London?

Namaste England is an upcoming hindi movie in 2018, It is romance comedy film and Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra and Aditya Seal in lead role. This film is Directedby Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. It is made under the banner of Pen Movies, Blockbuster Movie Entertainers and Reliance Entertainment. The film is the sequel to 2007 film Namastey London.

Both Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra stepped in Bollywood with Yash Raj Films’ Ishaqzaade and won hearts with the mind-blowing acting and also their stunning chemistry. And now, after years of their debut, the hit jodi is back together in Namastey England and fans can’t be more happy seeing them on the big screens.

The film doesn’t have an extraordinary story and gives us all Bollywood feels because that’s how the movies are being made here. Arjun and Parineeti’s chemistry is as usual on point with some cheesy dialogues they say while hitting on each other.
The romance shown between them is that of a typical Bollywood masala movie types which don’t have anything unique.

According to the makers, Namaste England is “a young and refreshing story that traces the journey of two individuals Jasmeet and Param. It tracks their love story across the landscapes of India and Europe. Starting from Punjab and moving to Ludhiana, Amritsar, Dhaka and all the way to Paris followed by Brussels and finally to London.

Well, the three-minute-long trailer witnesses some highs and lows of both Arjun and Parineeti’s life which changes their lives forever. The film even after being a masala movie, has a message about how a woman has a right to think about herself and deserves all the changes in her life she wishes to have.

Parineeti too wishes to have a life full of freedom and decides to fly off to England to fulfill her dream that too after marriage. Arjun later follows her and that’s what the story is all about. Well, we are really keen to know how the story ends.

So let’s wait till 19th October 2018 for release of the film.. which is preponed date of previously decided 7th December.

Sacred games : some unknown facts

The first season of Sacred Games came out on July 6 as India’s first Netflix Original Series and it has been the talk of the town since. As with any crime thriller, the start seemed a bit confusing but as the story unfolded, it became really addictive and I binged the rest of it. I admit I watched the trailer with a critical eye and the first impression was that it is going to be like just another Bolly gangster movie but I was never more wrong.

The show, which is based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Vikram Chandra, is directed by none other than Anurag Kashyap and co-directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. Interesting to note here is that the two directors shot the two main characters individually (Kashyap with Siddique and Motwane with Khan), their work brought together with flawless editing. The story weaves seamlessly with no loopholes as such and has its fair share of teeth-gritting, gasping moments. You can’t help being reminded of Narcos at times and all those Hollywood/Bollywood gangster epics that we have grown up watching.

Choice of the cast for the show is perfect; Saif Ali Khan makes for a good protagonist and does justice to his role of a weathered Policeman but Nawaz Uddin Siddique as a Mumbai-based gangster comes out on top. We have seen the guy in various roles in Bollywood movies and he has been impressive in all of them. Sacred Games is no different. Siddique holds an unforgettable presence in the show through his backstory and narration even though he is dead in the first episode.

Although the show centers around how religion is distorted and misused by people in power, you can’t help but notice that the portrayal of Muslims is still somewhat biased. Muslim villains in the show are shown as inexplicably and inherently brutal thugs with torturous ways of murdering their enemies while the Hindu villains are all simply conniving, evil masterminds.

With Sacred Games, Bollywood has entered into the cult of violence and gore in the media made popular with series such as Game of Thrones and Hannibal. There is blood, split heads, and severed limbs. The content description of the show claims “Violence and Language” and trust me it stays true to its word. There’s plenty of crass languages and explicit nudity which is a bold step for Bollywood.

All in all, the show is a huge leap in quality for Indian television which has held the reputation of being limited to the drab “Saas-Bahu” soap operas for years. This is an international level show which deserves all the praise.

The Deols and Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se

The film banks on a wafer-thin plot of an ayurvedic expert, Puran (Sunny Deol), who cures his patients with a magic preparation. When a pharmaceutical company approaches him for this recipe, he turns them down. However, his brother, Kaala (Bobby Deol) sells his soul to the enemy. A woman called Cheeku (Kriti Kharbanda) manages to seduce Kaala, and, before they know it, the company drags them to court for violation of their patent rights. This point marks the entry of the incorrigible tenant, Parmar (Dharmendra), who dons a lawyer’s cape to fight for the boys.

If one gives it a second thought, the story is promising. But, it fails at the execution level. The lingering imagery that stays with you post the excruciating 148 minutes is that of the drunk alcoholics, all of who are too loud to like.

The dialogues lack spunk, managing to cater to the IQ of teens only. There are ample jokes to pit Punjabis against Gujaratis. Of course, given that it’s helmed by the Deols, the writers were certain to give the Punjabis the edge. Sample this, Punjabis are portrayed as big-hearted people, further credited for being non-vegetarians with a greater tolerance for alcohol when compared to a vegetarian, teetotaling Gujju. Playing on regional divide in this day and age isn’t particularly celebrated. The film harps on it incessantly in a rather puerile fashion. There is a sense of laziness that’s evident from director Navaniat Singh’s approach. He doesn’t even try to make a watchable film.

It is painful to learn that Dharmendra agreed to do this film. Unfortunately, Kharbanda too invariably ends up in movies that don’t match her potential. Avoid this migraine-inducing massacre of a movie that is so unimpressive that even cinema legends can’t save it.

Stree (स्त्री): Bollywoods’s super entertainer

Horror comedy is not an easy genre and is a less trodden path in Bollywood. As the genre requires a perfect blend of both comedy and spookiness, makers refrain from exploring it. However, debutant director Amar Kaushik has done an amazing job with Stree, a horror comedy. Written by Go Goa Gone fame duo Raj Nidimoru, Krishna D.K., Stree is packed with hilarious lines, smart performances along with spooky undertones.

Inspired by a ‘ridiculous’ phenomenon, Stree is set in the historical town of Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh where men disappear during the four days of puja. A widely-feared spirit named Stree takes away men leaving behind their clothes and the only deterrent is a message written on the wall. Vicky (Rajkummar Rao), Manish Malhotra of Chanderi as he calls himself falls for a mysterious girl (Shraddha Kapoor), who appears only during puja. His friend Bittu (Aparshakti Khurrana) convinces him that his ladylove is the one behind all the mayhem after Stree whisks away their friend Jana (Abhishek Banerjee).

Stree plays well with both the genres being spooky and funny at the same time. However, ghostly moments are less and we don’t have any complaints as the cast compensates it with their comic timing. Pankaj Tripathi is an absolute delight to watch on screen and his entry in the movie is enough to evoke laughter. There is nothing this man can’t do and with his third collaboration (Bareilly Ki Barfi and Newton among prominent ones) with an equally talented leading man Rajkummar Rao brings out the best. Pankaj in the role of shudh Hindi-speaking librarian, who is researching on Stree has some of the best lines. He will leaving you craving for more. Performances of other supporting actors are also top-notch, be it budding talents like Aparshakti Khurrana and Abhishek Banerjee or Atul Srivastava, who plays Vicky’s father. Writers have let each character to flourish. In one of the scenes, where Vicky’s father gives sex education to him will remind you of 2017 film Shubh Mangal Saavadhan. The indirect reference to sex by calling it ‘friendship’ and that too in pure Hindi will leave you ROFL. However, the beauty of the entire film is that the comedy never seems over the top and forced and the credit goes to the cast.

Rajkummar Rao as a reluctant tailor, who thinks he is born to do something bigger plays the small town boy with the same charm and magic. Be it his innocent love or razor sharp comic timing, Rao excels in every department. Shraddha Kapoor looks pretty and does well in adding to that eerie atmosphere.

Stree is engaging and it never gets stretched and clumsy. The movie airily goes on treating you with witty one lines and hilarious dialogues. Sumit Arora has to get the credit. Besides the setting of a small town with those blue painted wooden windows, narrow lanes and clustered houses have been well captured by cinematographer, Amalendu Chaudhary. His camera gives you the essence of small town in a refreshing way. Stree is well-written and despite its absurdities it evokes good laughter. Amar Kaushik definitely needs an applause for helming such an entertaining watch.
Sachin-Jigar’s music is enjoyable. Thankfully, neither the songs have been placed abruptly nor do they slacken the pace. Background score by Ketan Sodha does a pretty good job scaring its audience.

Stree also takes a jibe at misogyny and chauvinism throughout but it makes you uncomfortable as it is the same film which has Nora Fatehi grooving on Kamariya. No, problem is not with the dance or the feet-tapping track but with the camera that zooms in all over Fatehi. If you keep that and the predictable plot aside, the whole journey is quite well excecuted. It is a ‘paisa-vasool’.
